The chemical union sees politicians as trying to use billions from the state to save the ailing parts of the industry. IG Metall is demanding investments of 500 to 600 billion. Employers want to give priority to saving.

The mood in the chemical industry is in the basement: both the real and the perceived situation of people have worsened, the chemical union (IG BCE) states as a result of a current member survey. 59 percent of those surveyed are (very) very worried that there will be job losses in industry – 38 percent fear this with regard to their own company. One in four doubts that their industry will still be producing in Germany in ten years.
