Slowly forward. And the recovery is not seen. According to Unioncamere data, 305 thousand hires were scheduled by companies in April, a figure that rises to 984 thousand in the quarter up to June. If the comparison with March is barely positive (+ 14 thousand contracts, 4.7%), the one with 2019 – before the pandemic – is disastrous: companies will hire 110 thousand fewer people (-26.4%). A negative trend that risks further increasing the number of jobs canceled by the crisis.

This is what emerges from the monthly Bulletin of the Excelsior Information System, produced by Unioncamere and Anpal. In particular, the industry plans 115 thousand receipts for April (+ 5 thousand compared to the previous month), while 68 thousand contracts are planned by the manufacturing sectors, in addition to 5 thousand planned revenues from Public Utilities and about 42 thousand expected entrances from construction. Among the manufacturing sectors, the mechanical and electronic industries (18 thousand entries), the metallurgical and metal products industries (17 thousand) and the food, drink and tobacco industries (10 thousand) are particularly noteworthy.

Services, on the other hand, provide for 190 thousand employment contracts to be stipulated for April: 9 thousand more than the previous month but 110 thousand less than in April 2019. Tourism and commerce are the sectors that record the greatest trend decline in demand for work – again compared to the previous period. -Covid – respectively with -76 thousand (-77.4%) and -13 thousand admissions (-21.9%). Positive dynamics for ICT services and advanced services alone, for which 3 thousand more entries (+ 28.5%) and about 800 more (+ 4.5%) are reported respectively than expected in April 2019.

Positive signs also from the car sector: in March, registrations of new vehicles within the EU increased by 87.3%, a leap due to the Covid restrictions in force last year. 1,062,446 new cars were sold compared to 567,253 in March 2020. This was reported by ACEA, stating that Italy saw the greatest increase (+ 497.2%), followed by France (+ 191.7%) and Spain (+ 128.0%). The German market also showed strong gains, with sales up 35.9% in March.
