The immersive suspense drama “Sakura” enchants visitors at East Lake Moshan Cherry Garden
Wuhan’s annual cherry blossom season has arrived, painting the city in shades of pink and white. Among the blooming cherry blossoms and chirping swallows, East Lake Moshan Cherry Garden has introduced an immersive romantic suspense drama titled “Sakura Marriage.”
The play “Sakura Marriage” tells the story of a powerful warlord leader, Ma Shengyong, who visits Three Trees Theater to meet his lover, the top actress Liu Yanhong. However, Ma Shengyong is mysteriously murdered during his visit, unraveling a tale of love and faith in a time of war.
Utilizing cutting-edge immersive performance techniques, the play involves interactive elements where the audience becomes part of the storyline. Visitors are encouraged to participate in solving the mystery of Ma Shengyong’s death, enhancing their viewing experience and engagement with the performance.
One tourist, Mr. Zhao from Hankou, shared his experience, stating, “I didn’t expect the performance to start outside the theater. The interactive nature of the play was fascinating, and I enjoyed being involved in solving the case.”
The creators of “Sakura” emphasize the importance of interactive viewing relationships in immersive performing arts. By breaking traditional performance boundaries, actors and audience members establish connections on multiple levels, enhancing the overall experience.
With a three-dimensional stage design inspired by the garden’s three large trees, the play creates a visually captivating and immersive viewing space for spectators.
“Sakura” is a collaborative production by Phantom City (Wuhan) Cultural Creativity Co., Ltd., Pan Asia Chutian Cultural Tourism Technology Hubei Co., Ltd., and Wuhan Juyi Performance Co., Ltd. The play will be performed multiple times throughout the day at the Three Trees Theater during the Cherry Blossom Festival at Moshan Sakura Garden.
