The Grace Of A Dragonfly” is nothing short of epic and by far LIONHEART’s best work to date.
To counteract any risk of confusion: LIONHEART is the British melodic rock band that was founded in 1980 by ex-IRON MAIDEN guitarist Dennis Stratton. So if you’re expecting a review of the West Coast Hardcore band, you can stop reading now.
For everyone else, there is now an overview of the fourth album from the Brits, who were last heard from in 2020 with “The Reality Of Miracles”. “The Grace Of A Dragonfly” is a concept album, with the 11 songs all about the victims or heroes of World War II. Accordingly, the band approaches it even more calmly, calmly and thoughtfully than usual. While some Melodic and AOR fans may like it, to be honest it’s a bit too much for me. The songs are all of high quality across the board, that can be noticed without a doubt and the melodies are perfectly harmoniously staged and are underlined with buttery smoothness by keyboard sounds and twin guitars. The lyrics are also far from simple banter, so that the singer has something to do. Nevertheless, one has the feeling that the lion’s heart only beats at half strength and that the king of the beasts has also lost his bite.
If “The Grace Of A Dragonsfly” had been released in the 80s, some songs would have played on a loop on all radio stations and one or two songs would easily have made it as a soundtrack for films like “Top Gun”, “Iron Eagle”. done. Just listen to “The Longest Night” and you can literally see Tom Cruise jumping into the cockpit. “V Is For Victory” would definitely have been a guaranteed hit back then. Finally there is “Remembrance, Praying For World Peace”, a 1 minute sung prayer for world peace. In keeping with the current situation on the globe, of course, but again toothless.
Unfortunately, the 11 tracks are already out of memory after their last note and not a single one manages to leave at least enough of an impression to listen to it again. It’s a shame actually. The potential would certainly be there, because none of the musicians are blank slates.
