Listening to Wagner and Brahms’ Forest Whispers “Forest Whisper” concert ended successfully

On the evening of July 10, conductor Hu Yongyan, violinist Xie Nan, and viola player Su Zhen, together with the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, performed a green concert in the hot summer of Hangzhou, using Mozart, Works by Wagner and Brahms open up a musical conversation.

This “Forest” concert begins with Wagner’s “Whispers of the Forest” (from “Siegfried”). When conductor Hu Yongyan waved his hands to bring out a low and soft melody, the branches and leaves constructed by the notes began to spread in the theater.

In the sleeping forest where the strings are closely woven, the flute plays the agile bird motive, which attracts the clarinet and oboe to play the horn motive one after another. When it fell, the tune of less than nine minutes murmured a whole piece of Summer Secret Language, giving the audience an excellent prelude.

Wagner’s Whispers in the Woods is followed by Mozart’s Symphony in E-flat major (Op. K364). The ensemble gave a good result. When the violinist Xie Nan and the viola player Su Zhen took to the stage together, the audience gave warm applause to the two elegant women. After the band hits a strong first theme, the violins and viola begin to outline the melody with the instruments in their hands.

Xie Nan has a unique feminine charm in shaping the sound of the violin. Her eyes are clear and firm, her bow is resolute and powerful, and her gestures show the beauty of a woman; Su Zhen is more tender and beautiful, and a violin is needed to play a relatively large scale. The soloist gives more superposition of power, showing a thick musical texture in the steady sneak. Finally, the two main instruments climbed to the top of the treble area one after another, and the ensemble of the band came to a successful conclusion. The applause from the audience again gave the performers infinite warmth and affirmation. Overlooking the forest from the top of Mozart’s mountain, the glory of classicism is all within sight.

The second half of the concert was Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 in F major (Op. 90). Music muse Clara called this song “The Pastoral of the Forest”, which corresponds to the theme of the concert “Forest”, and also allows the audience to look back at the two rivalries in the music arena of the same era through different works in the first and second half. Different “Forest Story” created by each master. For the orchestra, traveling through Wagner’s transcendental passion and Brahmske’s lyricism at the same time is a unique experience outside of business tempering.

Brahms only composed four symphonies in his life, and all four works adhered to the tradition of classicism-rigorous structure, rich musical thinking, and the third symphony is one of the models. In Brahms’ famous music motto “F A-flat F” (Freedom and Joy), conductor Hu Yongyan leads the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra into Brahms’ “Forest System”.

In the summer night into the forest, the sound and painting are beyond the world. The natural environment contained in classical music is often a good recipe for calming the mind in the hot summer. Hang Ai uses music to construct the forest. Everything is only a leaf grows and a leaf falls. Listening means endless life.
