The highly anticipated movie “Morning Cloud and Mud Rain” is set to hit theaters on May 17, with acclaimed actors Fan Wei and Zhou Dongyu taking on the lead roles as husband and wife.
Directed by Zhang Guoli and produced by Han Sanping, “Morning Cloud and Mud Rain” is an adaptation of the true story “The Murderous Girl in a Wedding Dress.” The film has already generated buzz for its selection in the main competition unit of the Tiantan Award at the upcoming 14th Beijing International Film Festival.
In the movie, Fan Wei portrays the character Lao Qin, a man with conservative values who is eager to fulfill his duties to his deceased parents by having a son. Zhou Dongyu plays Chang Juan, who approaches Lao Qin under false pretenses to extort money through marriage. However, as the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that there are deeper secrets at play between the two characters.
This marks the first time that Fan Wei and Zhou Dongyu have worked together onscreen, despite both having been awarded Best Actor and Actress at the Golden Horse Awards. Director Zhang Guoli initially had reservations about the complexity of the characters, but he was pleasantly surprised by the actors’ performances during filming. He praised Fan Wei and Zhou Dongyu for their ability to bring his vision to life, stating, “If I were asked to choose actors now, it has to be these two.”
With such talent involved, “Morning Cloud and Mud Rain” is sure to captivate audiences when it premieres next month.
