According to Variety, Hwang Dong-hyuk already has a 25-page script for “Killing the Old Man Club” inspired by a novel by Umberto Eco, whose title was not given. Eco, who died in 2016, is perhaps best known for his 1980 novel The Name of the Rose, which became a Sean Connery film in 1986, and a TV miniseries in 2019.
Hwang Dong-hyuk said “Killing the Old Man Club” would definitely be “another controversial movie” that would be more violent than “Squid Game.” But there’s also news for Game of Squid fans: Hwang will now be back home in South Korea to write the highly anticipated second season of Game of Squid, which he hopes will be available on Netflix by the end of 2024.
The Squid Game is a phenomenon for Netflix in fall 2021, and in its own particular way it became the streaming drama service’s biggest blockbuster ever.
