A few steps from his home which is now a museum, in the one hundred and fifty years since his death (May 22, 1873) Milan celebrates Alessandro Manzoni with a rich cultural and artistic programme. The main appointment is in the Cathedral: under the vaults of the cathedral, thirty-eight chapters of his best-known work, The Betrothed, are read. On 22 May, again in the aisles of the Duomo, after the reading, a special performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem, with the Milan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Riccardo Frezza.
