A Viral Story Turns Out to be a Lie: Barranquilla Woman’s Claim of Illustrating Renowned Film Disproved
In recent days, a story has gone viral on social networks, after it emerged that Geraldine Fernández Ruiz from Barranquilla claimed that she had participated in the illustration of the renowned film The Boy and the Heron. However, it has now been revealed that everything turned out to be a lie.
The young woman had supposedly been part of the team of illustrators of the film, which is set to be released on January 25 and has made an impact in the world of international cinema, even garnering a nomination for Best Film at the Golden Globes.
Fernández Ruiz went so far as to claim that her work in the famous illustration studio was so outstanding that the team called her ‘the Colombian’ and that she communicated with Hayao Miyazaki, the creator of the famous film Spirited Away, through a video call on Meet.
She even stated that she made over 25 thousand frames for the film, but her name does not appear in the credits, sparking attention and controversy in the entertainment industry in Colombia.
Fernández Ruiz’s story seemed to be one of national pride, with support from the company Tecnoglass and its owner, businessman Christian Daes, where she has been working for six months. However, it has now been revealed that her story was fabricated.
After a tweet revealed the Barranquilla woman’s deception, Christian Daes apologized for not having investigated her story more thoroughly. Despite this, Fernández Ruiz has stuck to her version of events and stated that she will prove that she is an illustrator by providing certificates to support her claim.
