The largest fast charging network in the world? Tesla’s Supercharger

ROME – Avid travelers know it: the largest fast charging network in the world at the moment, with 30,000 Superchargers, is the one spread by Tesla. An infrastructure that allows customers to travel 100% electric, giving the opportunity to explore different countries, without the thought of remaining on foot …

A project that proceeds with speed, dedicating itself in parallel to non-branded cars as well. In fact, Tesla now has several brands on its heels, including the Stellantis group, which with the next “Atlante” has declared its intention to create the widest fast charging network (fast and ultra fast in DC), powered by energy from sources renewable and supported by storage systems.

Tesla’s new columns in Europe

Tesla, which as mentioned at the moment holds the record, in the first quarter installed over 730 new Supercharger charging bays in over 60 stations in Europe: Austria, 10 bays; Belgium, 8 stalls; Germany, 216 stalls; Finland, 4 stalls; France, 96 stalls; Hungary, 38 stalls; Iceland, 3 stalls; Ireland, 6 stalls; Netherlands, 80 stalls; Norway, 32 stalls; Spain, 24 stalls; Sweden, 72 stalls; United Kingdom, 76 stalls; Italy, 68 stalls.

Tesla stations in Italy

In Italy, there are 52 Supercharger stations, with 500 charging bays distributed throughout the Peninsula, including the islands. The brand is making considerable progress on the infrastructure front: six new stations in the first quarter of 2022, i.e. from January to today, will allow those passing through Bologna, Bergamo-Dalmine, Bardonecchia, Turin-Grugliasco, Perugia and Montenero di Bisaccia, you can also fill up to 120 km in 5 minutes if you own a Model 3 Long Range. The new generation Superchargers are in fact the V3s, capable of reaching power peaks of 250 kW. This upgrade is added to the expansion of the existing Affi station, to which 8 stalls have been added.

Driver updates

For those who drive a Tesla, therefore, all that remains is to decide where to stop: the car was previously able to calculate the route autonomously, addressing itself to the Supercharger charging stations. With the latest updates, the driver can now also filter the complete list, choosing which one he prefers among the reachable Superchargers based on the remaining charge.

Also for other cars

Finally, started in the Netherlands in November 2021, the Supercharger pilot project dedicated to non-Tesla cars continues: it expands to new sites and countries, now in France and Norway. “Our ambition has always been to open the Supercharger network to non-Tesla electric vehicles and, in doing so, encourage more and more drivers to switch to electric,” they say on the site. Prices? “They include the additional costs incurred to support the charging of a wide range of vehicles and the modifications made to accommodate these vehicles.” The cost per kWh for recharging can be reduced with a special subscription for recharging.
