This Tuesday, Lucasfilm and Disney announced that Grogu, popularly known as “Baby Yoda,” will debut on the big screen in the film The Mandalorian & Grogu. The production will begin filming later this year and will be directed by Jon Favreau.
Although no release date was announced, it’s good news for Star Wars fans who haven’t had a new movie since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the continuation of the popular Disney+ series, although no details were given about the actors who will participate in it. Chilean-American star Pedro Pascal has played the masked bounty hunter, known in Spanish as The Mandalorian or Mando, for three seasons on television (it should be remembered that a fourth part is in development).
Dave Filoni will produce the new film along with Favreau and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said in a statement. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting,” he added.
“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered in two beloved new ‘Star Wars’ characters, and this new story fits perfectly on the big screen,” Kennedy said.
For those eager, it is known that there are other Star Wars films in development by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold and Filoni, who is also developing the second season of Ahsoka. But so far, the details are unknown.
