The Matrix: Restart – New Film Announced with Director Drew Goddard

Warner Bros. Announces “The Matrix 5” in Production with New Director

On Tuesday, Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed that the fifth installment of “The Matrix” franchise is currently in production. The new movie, titled “The Matrix 5,” will see a change in director, with Drew Goddard taking the helm. The Wachowski sisters, who directed the first four films in the series, will no longer be behind the camera for this installment.

According to a report from Variety, Drew Goddard, known for his work on “The Martian,” will not only direct “The Matrix 5” but also co-produce the script with his partner at Goddard Textiles, Sarah Esberg. Lana Wachowski, director of “The Matrix Resurrection,” will serve as a producer on the new film.

While plot details and casting decisions for “The Matrix 5” have not yet been revealed, fans are eager to know if Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as Neo in the upcoming movie. However, it has been confirmed that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas will return for the sequel.

Jesse Ehrman, president of production at Warner Bros., expressed his excitement for the new installment, stating, “Drew comes to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe will be a great continuation of the Matrix universe. An incredible way to both honor what Lana and Lily started 25 years ago, while also providing a unique perspective based on his own love for the series and the characters.”

“The Matrix” franchise premiered in 1999 and has since garnered a massive following, grossing over $1.6 billion worldwide. The fourth film in the series, “The Matrix Resurrection,” premiered in 2021 and received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike.
