Zhao Benshan stepped down as the legal representative and was taken over by An Shoushu. At the same time, Zhao Benshan resigned from the post of chairman and general manager.
According to the company’s information, “Benshan Media” was established in 2003 with a registered capital of 125 million yuan, and is jointly held by Benshan Holdings Co., Ltd., Ma Lijuan and Zhao Benshan.
On December 30, “Zhao Benshan stepped down as the legal representative of Benshan Media” was pushed into a hot search, which caused heated discussions among netizens. Some netizens posted: Zhao Benshan was afraid of tax evasion and went to prison soon!
Benshan Media (Hainan) Co., Ltd., in which Zhao Benshan participated in the investment, was included in the list of serious violations on July 13, 2020. It was cancelled in February 2021 because it had not fulfilled the relevant obligations three years after being included in the list of abnormal operations. Zhao Benshan is the company’s second largest shareholder.
Zhao Benshan told the media in 2010 that he would spend 1.3 billion to build the Boao Film and Television Base in Hainan and build the Liu Laogen stage. However, on March 10, 2021, the relevant person in charge of Benshan Media (Hainan) told China Red Star News, “The film base and the Liu Laogen stage have not been repaired at all.”
Zhao Benshan’s Shenzhen store was also exposed and closed. On November 8, 2020, some netizens in the industry broke the news that the Liu Laogen stage in Shenzhen is about to close and there is no plan to continue business. On the one hand, due to the impact of the epidemic, Liu Laogen’s big stage has been unable to make ends meet and is unsustainable; on the other hand, because of the “two-person turn” performance, this form of performance is no longer favored by the audience.
In recent years, negative news about Zhao Benshan’s “Benshan Media” has spread frequently. “Benshan Media” Co., Ltd. was renamed “Liaoning Folk Art Troupe Co., Ltd.” on August 1, 2019. The renamed company is controlled by “Benshan Holdings Co., Ltd.”, Zhao Benshan and his wife Ma Lijuan. The three parties hold 60%, 19.6%, and 20.4% of the shares respectively.
Zhao Benshan is known for his vulgar and vulgar performances. The theme of his sketches is mostly “ridiculing farmers, the disabled and the disadvantaged” and has been criticized.

At the 2001 Spring Festival Gala, Zhao Benshan, Fan Wei and Gao Xiumin performed a skit that vilified Falun Gong, “Selling Abductions,” which helped abuse and poison the people. From then on, Zhao Benshan was designated as the “Sketch King” by the Jiang faction, and he must go to the Spring Festival Gala every year. No matter how he performed, the title of “Sketch King” can only belong to him. After that, Zhao Benshan and others continued to take the initiative to please Jiang Zemin.
But after the Chongqing incident broke out in February 2012, Zhao Benshan has been absent from the “Spring Festival Gala” every year.
After the Chongqing Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai incidents, Zhao Benshan was exposed as one of the core figures in the plot of Bo Xilai and Zhou Yongkang in the coup d’etat, and was listed as the “Minister of Culture” after the coup d’etat.
Zhao Benshan started his career in Tieling, Liaoning. For decades, Zhao Benshan’s family history has been closely related to Bo Xilai and Wang Lijun. There are complex exchanges of interests between them, and Zhao and Wang Lijun have very good personal relationships.

In fact, not only did many folks dislike the vulgar sketch actor Zhao Benshan, Hong Kong media has disclosed that some high-level CCP officials dislike Zhao’s performance, and even express their disgust with his vulgar performances repeatedly in the “Tall of Grace”.
