30 million euros to polish seventeen schools

PADUA – The plan has been ready for two months but the green light is now really official. Last March, the President of the Province Fabio Bui sent a detailed list of interventions that concerned 17 schools between city and province and in the meantime in the last few weeks there have been two other important steps. During the last Provincial Council, the list was formally included in the piano triennial of public Works 2022-2024 and in the meantime the Province itself has participated in a further tender to create a new canteen, two gyms and two outdoor sports areas between Padua and Abano.

THE TIMES
Let’s start with certainties. The Province will draw funds from two bandi related to Pnrr. The first foresees the arrival of 12.9 million euros and the other sees the allocation of 17 million. All the works are already funded and involve 17 institutes for a total investment from 30 million euros.
«The design tasks are partly already assigned and partly in the assignment phase – explains Alessandro Bisato, provincial councilor for school construction -. By the end of the year we will have to make the tenders to award the works to the companies and the construction sites will have to open by 31 March 2023. We are running a race against time ».

IN THE CITY
The largest intervention is the one at the Selvatico Institute in Padua: 8.1 million in total for the maxi-restoration (but 2.2 million will be provided by the Cariparo Foundation). An expense of 3 million will instead concern the seismic upgrading of the Marconi-Bernardi. During the works some classes will be transferred to the spaces rented by the parish of Santa Giustina and then to the former Cmpp in the area of the superintendent of via Cave: the transfer could start already during the next Christmas holidays. In Padua, other construction sites will affect Einaudi (450 thousand euros for the new safety staircase and the Belzoni (1.3 million for the implementation of fire safety regulations).
Then we find in the list 800 thousand euros to bring the Tito Livio and Duca D’Aosta high schools into line with the fire prevention regulations, but also 700 thousand euros for the same works at the Ruzza and the Valle branch. It will cost 2.3 million, however, to expand and bring the San Benedetto da Norcia up to standard by also creating a greenhouse.
Finally, the Province has just conferred a professional assignment to formulate a great plan-guide on the entire Marconi-Bernardi compendium which will lead to a complete regeneration of the area. For this, however, 20 million would be needed and we will talk about it again in the coming years.

THE OTHER MUNICIPALITIES
Double intervention also in Cittadella: one million for the seismic upgrading of the Fanoli and two million for the same works at the Meucci and Caro institutes. The Province wants to reduce the inconvenience by avoiding class movements: it will proceed mainly in the summer and then it will go by excerpts without paralyzing the schools.
A good 5.7 million will be spent at the Pietro d’Abano branch where, in addition to the adaptation of the existing structure, two new plans are planned to expand the institute. The Province is working to find the best solution for the temporary transfer of pupils.
The expected expansion of the Einstein in Piove di Sacco (1.5 million), the extraordinary maintenance at the Montagnana School (2.1 million) and finally the 730 thousand euro works to adapt and reclaim the floors in asbestos from Cattaneo di Monselice.

THE SPORT
These are the certainties, but then there is another novelty. The Province has participated in a new 5 million call which includes five interventions in the city: improvement and safety of the gymnasium of the Scalcerle institute, improvement of the outdoor sports areas of the Liceo Curiel (main office and branch) and new canteen in the ‘San Benedetto da Norcia institute. To all this is added the new gymnasium of the Pietro d’Abano institute in Abano. The state response is expected by the end of June.

THE SATISFACTION
Of the 35 million in total linked to funds from the NRP, 20 are for the city. «We are respecting all the commitments – smiles the president Fabio Bui -. Anti-Covid sanitation, ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of safety measures, interventions on seismic vulnerabilities, fire prevention projects and adaptations, demolition of architectural barriers: all this demonstrates how much the Province has believed and invested in school construction, now also exploiting the opportunities given by Pnrr “.
