Children in Austria receive their first passport before they are born – together with their mother: the mother-child pass is an unprecedented preventative success story. 50 years ago, the then Health Minister Ingrid Leodolter (SP) implemented the program. Since then, practically every pregnant woman, the unborn child and later the child have been able to benefit from regular preventive examinations.
