Adobe Blocks Antivirus From Scanning PDFs 30 Software Can’t Scan Safely

September 20, 2019 San Francisco / CA / USA – Close up of Adobe sign at their corporate headquarters in San Francisco

A security report recently released by information security company Minerva Labs shows that Adobe’s Acrobat Reader viewer software tool for loading PDF files is trying to block the security scanning detection of as many as 30 mainstream antivirus software.

According to the report, as many as 30 antivirus software such as ESET, McAfee, 360 Security, Kaspersky, AVG, etc. were blocked by Adobe for security scanning detection, but only Microsoft’s Windows Defender was not included in the list. Minerva Labs said that if the PDF file cannot be scanned by anti-virus software, it will cause serious catastrophic losses.

Adobe responded to Minerva Labs’ report that the embedded framework (CEF) used by its open source Adobe Acrobat reader based on the Chromium engine was incompatible with many security and antivirus software, resulting in instability. Adobe is also working with security vendors to resolve software incompatibilities as soon as possible so that blocked antivirus software will work properly.

The 30 antivirus software blocked by Adobe include Trend Micro, BitDefender, AVAST, F-Secure, McAfee, 360 Security, Citrix, Symantec, Morphisec, Malwarebytes, Checkpoint, Ahnlab, Cylance, Sophos, CyberArk, Citrix, BullGuard, Panda Security, Fortinet, Emsisoft, ESET, K7 TotalSecurity, Kaspersky, AVG, CMC Internet Security, Samsung Smart Security ESCORT, Moon Secure, NOD32, PC Matic and SentryBay.
