From 1 May to 31 March 2023, air conditioners will not be able to bring the average temperature in public buildings below 25 degrees (or better, below 27 degrees but with a tolerance of 2 degrees). For the winter, then, the temperature cannot exceed 21 degrees (also in this case, 19 plus 2 of tolerance). The measure contained in the expensive bill decree does not concern clinics, hospitals and nursing homes, but in a broader sense the savings on energy costs skyrocketing also due to the conflict in Ukraine certainly concern the pockets of Italians.
One billion cubic meters of gas for each degree
One degree less for heating and air conditioning in homes and offices is worth a billion cubic meters of gas. According to Nomisam Energia, if household air conditioners were completely switched off, 10 billion cubic meters would be saved. However, as the European Union and the International Energy Agency wrote, on average the temperature in homes is set at 22 degrees, but it would be good practice to place the thermostat at a temperature between 19 and 20 degrees. By following this option it will be possible to lower the energy consumption by 7%.
The types of systems
The temperature has also become a political fact as well as an economic one so you need to study a little when you decide to buy an air conditioner.
