“Hundred Heroes”, which is expected to be released in 2023, is a new “orthodox” JRPG created by the original team of “Fantasy Water Margin”. This work implemented crowdfunding in 2020, and received more than 480 million yen The amount of funds raised has become a topic for a while.

And “Hundred Heroes: Rise” is a derivative work that describes its previous day, and some of the “Hundred Heroes” characters will appear; in addition to Rabbit & Bear Studios, it also joins the development members of NatsumeAtari, which is a fast-paced 2.5 D Action RPG with town upgrade elements.

Murayama Jilong:The Hundred Heroes project started with Kickstarter crowdfunding. What makes it different from normal games is that there is a considerable amount of time between the development of the first announced game and the official release. Therefore, we thought it would be a good way to introduce the worldview of “Hundred Heroes” to fundraisers and supporters through the development of the prequel during this period.

GNN: What role did Rabbit & Bear Studios, NatsumeAtari, and 505 Games play in the development of Hundred Heroes: Rise?

NatsumeAtari:We were involved in the planning stages of Rise of the Hundred Heroes and were responsible for the game’s production, while working closely with Rabbit & Bear and 505 Games.

Murayama:There are differences in the number of characters and the resources put into the game, so we chose the type of game that suits each of our requirements.

NatsumeAtari:Since we had to make a prequel before The Hundred Heroes came out, we decided to focus on a frontier town where the story took place, and make sure that the town was well described. We chose to give players a different experience from “Hundred Heroes” in a side-scrolling action RPG.

GNN: In addition to adventure, the other main axis of this work is “building a town”. I would also like to ask why such creativity and mechanism are adopted?

NatsumeAtari:From the point of view of building a town, town upgrades have become the main axis of the game. Then, when we worked with screenwriter Tadashi Satomi, it was decided to rebuild a town that was damaged by an earthquake and develop it further to bring out the game’s story.

GNN: What is the weight of this game? How many hours does it take to play?

NatsumeAtari:It takes about 15 to 20 hours to complete the main storyline of Hundred Heroes: Rise. Even after completing the story, there are various challenging elements.

NatsumeAtari:The three characters CJ, Isha and Gru were created for Hundred Heroes: Rise. However, before the characters were created, it was thought that they would be included in the main story, so they will also be the first characters in “Hundred Heroes”. We want players to get to know the real Hundred Heroes before they launch!

GNN: Will “Hundred Heroes: Rise” consider adding additional characters through DLC in the future, or launching any other type of DLC?

NatsumeAtari:We don’t currently plan to launch additional content like DLC, but there will be new side quests and higher difficulty game modes after the main story is complete.

GNN: In what way will “Hundred Heroes: Rise” and “Hundred Heroes” be linked in the future? In addition to the plot, will there be any inheritance elements in the game?

GNN: Finally, can you share the current development status of “Hundred Heroes”?

Omuta:Until now, we’ve been working on the game’s early development efforts. We’ve finally finished visualizing the fields, towns, dungeons, and battles that are the core of the game, and using today’s imaging technology allows us to be more detailed in designing the expressions of our 2D characters. Of course, there will also be base towns, one-on-one battles, wars, competitions, spinning top games, fishing, drama, cooking, and more… so many elements! (laughs) Thank you players for your continued support.

GNN: Please say something to the players in Taiwan.

NatsumeAtari:“Hundred Heroes: Rise” is made with players who are not good at playing action games in mind. I hope everyone can enjoy the exciting gameplay. The engaging scenes created by Satomi Nao are also a major draw of the game. Hope you will like it!

Hundred Heroes: Rise will be available on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam, Epic, and GOG) on May 11, 2022, with games synced on release day Onboard Xbox and PC Game Pass.
