The pandemic has left us with a delay in cancer diagnosis that we never could have imagined: according to the data from the screening observatory, a diagnostic delay of over 3,500 breast cancers, 1,300 colorectal cancers and over 7,700 advanced colorectal adenomas is estimated. However, that of the rectum is a new emergency: it is the second most frequent in the female population, while for men it is the third. In women, over 20 thousand new diagnoses and 10 thousand deaths are estimated every year, while in breast cancer against over 55 thousand diagnoses there are 12 thousand deaths. Screening programs are therefore a fundamental tool for women’s health.
What do women need today to go back to looking after their health as before, if not even better? Of a better organization on the territory, to finally bridge the gap in the adhesion between the North and the South of Italy. Welcoming places, where women can take exams with less discomfort and stress. Of innovative technologies that allow less invasive examinations without sacrificing effectiveness.
The appointment to talk about the challenges of women’s prevention is for Tuesday 8 March at 7 pm on the Health website. Salute’s āDialogues on the futureā are back with the talk āCancer: prevention is the strength of womenā in which four experts at the forefront of prevention will participate.
