Chiuduno cries Nello, a life for patients

Dr. Lionello Pievani, a beloved and respected doctor in the town of Chiuduno, passed away on Easter Sunday at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer. His daughter, Francesca Pievani, proudly shared memories of her father’s dedication to his profession and his community.

Dr. Pievani, who had a dream of becoming a missionary before meeting his wife, served as a general practitioner in Chiuduno for over 30 years. Known affectionately by his patients as “my Nello,” he was described as the classic doctor of the past who would visit patients at home and share meals with them like family. His commitment to helping others was evident in his tireless work ethic and compassionate care.

Francesca shared that her father’s patients have been reaching out with messages of condolence, recalling his extraordinary qualities of humanity and kindness. Even after retiring in 2015, Dr. Pievani continued to work and was dedicated to serving others. During the height of the Covid pandemic, he was the only doctor willing to go out and visit patients, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his profession.

In addition to his medical career, Dr. Pievani was also a sports doctor, the director of Avis, and volunteered with Unitalsi to take the sick to Lourdes. His dedication to helping others extended beyond his medical practice, and he was known for his selfless service to the community.

Francesca shared that her father’s clinic will be the site of his funeral procession, with services to be held at the parish church on Tuesday. The outpouring of love and admiration from his former patients and the community is a testament to the impact Dr. Pievani had on the lives of those he served.
