Consciousness in a cascade of electrical impulses

Each of us knows how to define consciousness. It is what we experience as soon as we wake up: the light, the heat of the coffee cup, the cold of the floor. Also thanks to the studies that led to the Nobel Prize for Medicine this year we know how external physical events, such as light, cold, heat, are transformed by peripheral receptors into electrical impulses that travel fast towards the brain.
