Cyberpunk, Resident Evil, Tekken and others: on Netflix, video games become TV series

Geeked Week is the annual event that Netflix dedicates to new content, between films (a few) and TV series (many)which are on the way or are already available but are in some way deepened.

It’s a week that lasts 5 days, from 6 to 10 Juneeach dedicated to a specific topic: first day for serials, second day for feature films, third day for animation, fourth day for Stranger Things and fifth day for video games. Which on closer inspection are perhaps the ones that have had the most space this year, because on Netflix now you can not only watch but also play.

Below, divided by theme, we have selected the most interesting proposals shown by the streaming giant e related in some way to technology, be it science fiction, space exploration or a dystopian future. Or video games, in fact.

New movies and new series

From Star Wars to Streaming Wars: Disney wants to overtake Netflix sooner than expected

The new Netflix TV series

Resident Evil
A historical brand, linked to a video game that dates back to 1996returns on July 14 with a series also set in Raccoon City: there is the Umbrella Corporation, there is a drug that turns into a virus and of course there are zombies.

The Sandman
Taken from the famous comic by Neil Gaimanwhich tells the story of the Eternals, 7 brothers who represent as many metaphysical entities (Dream, Death, Destiny, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium), and their relationships with mankind, the serial arrives on August 5th.

The Imperfects
The story looks a bit like that of X-Men, in the sense that it talks about people with superhuman powers, but with some more problematic implications: it talks about 3 young people who team up to find the evil scientist who conducted experiments on them years ago, turning them into something that is no longer entirely human. The official release date has not yet been confirmed.

The new movies coming to Netflix

Spiderhead
From the little that is understood from the trailer, the film seems to be set in the not too distant future in which a scientist (Chris Hemsworth) conducts experiments on a group of people in what could be a clinic, or a prison. To do this, she uses substances that alter emotions, making subjects more and more sincere, talkative and uninhibited. June 17th arrives.

Rebel Moon
A very promising project, but about which little is known yet: the director Zack Snyder signs what has been described as “an epic film on the border between fantasy and science fiction”, in which the inhabitants of a peaceful colony threatened by the armies of a tyrant assign a young woman from the past to explore planets neighbors, looking for warriors willing to fight alongside them. The release date is still shrouded in secrecy.

Entertainment for adults (but not only)

Farzar
A decidedly nonsense science fiction comedy made from the creators of Paradise Police: The protagonist is Prince Fichael, who enlists “a team of misfits” on the journey from their human city and protected by a dome to face the aliens who want to kill them. Or eat them, which is the same. Streaming from July 15th.

Love, Death & Robots
A brief behind the scenes for this strange science fiction series (here our selection of the episodes not to be missed)which helps to understand how the authors managed to create some of the most beautiful and evocative scenes.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
For better or for worse, Cyberpunk 2077 was among the most talked about video games of the last two years (at least): this series takes you back to the streets of sprawling, beautiful and decadent Night City. Which is a city but it is not just a city, and it can definitely be included among the protagonists of the story. It should be available from September.

Exception
It’s a horror series set in space, where humanity moves to a new planet with the help of a technologically advanced 3D printer. But that could also prove to be a double-edged sword.

Moonrise
More space exploration in this serial scripted by Tou Ubukata and directed by Masashi Koizuka: in the future, humans inhabit both the Earth and the Moon and a young man from Earth enlisted to fight the rebels who populate the satellite planet. He will find that his (ex) best friend has become his enemy.

Cuphead!
The series is already available, but they arrive new episodes dedicated to the misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious brother Mugman.

Tekken: Bloodline
What it probably is the most famous fighting game of all will truly become an anime: the series, expected in 2022, will allow you to explore the origins of some of the most beloved characters.

Dragon Age: Absolution
The acclaimed and beloved video game series by BioWare it also becomes an animated series on Netflix, set in a location never explored so far: to see it it will be necessary to wait for December.

Castlevania: Nocturne
A new series dedicated to Castlevania and focused on Rondo of Blood and on exploits of Richter Belmont during the French Revolution; there is no official release date yet.

Netflix and video games to play

As we know, for some time now on Netflix you can not only watch but also play video games: The list of titles available through the app expands to include content directly inspired by the most successful series and others that are very popular game conversions.

The first case is that of Shadow and Bone: Destiniesfrom Too Hot to Handle (with gameplay reminiscent of Tinder and other dating apps), of the House of Paper and also of the Chess Queen.

Instead they belong to the second group Reigns: Three Kingdomswhich is coming to Netflix with a new storyline after being highly appreciated on smartphones around the worldand the dreamlike Spiritfarer, in which you will have to play the role of Stella, the ferryman of souls. To accompany them on their last journey, of course.
