“Don’t bother those who produce wealth. No to the State that oppresses”

Giorgia Meloni arrives in Trento to sign the Agreement for development and cohesion between the national government and the autonomous province of Tridentine: “I am happy to be here in the year in which the city is the capital of volunteering. A deserved role that attributes great solidarity potential to Trento, as President Mattarella said. I want to endorse these words.” In the meantime, on the sidelines of the ceremony alongside President Fugatti, the Prime Minister addresses various issues that concern our country more generally: starting from Tax, after yesterday the Council of Ministers approved the legislative decree which provides for the automatic cancellation of tax bills after five years and longer installments for those who are experiencing a period of difficulty. “Those who produce wealth are not disturbed“, is the clear stance of the Prime Minister, which says a clear “no to a oppressive state“, because it is seen “as an enemy, which does not collaborate when it sees you in difficulty, it is a State that is more difficult to trust”. The State must instead put companies and workers “in the best possible conditions”.

The paradigm shift on tax evasion

According to Meloni, this would be the reason why the Revenue Agency claims that in the calendar year 2023 “we had greater revenue to the State for approximately 26 billion euros“. We are talking about the same time period in which the values of the recovery of tax evasion “reached an all-time high with over 30 billion in recovery of taxable persons”. The Prime Minister therefore says she is proud to have worked “with a different approach from what we have seen in the past” from this point of view. Instead of being seen as an enemy, if a State manages to meet its citizens, it becomes a State “that you can trust, a State that does not deserve to be circumvented . Perhaps it is also thanks to the principles we wrote in the tax reform – he adds – that in 2023 we reached the tax evasion recovery record“.

Still in the economic field, Meloni also intervenes on Pnrr, for whom “today Italy is a model nation and it is something I am very proud of”. In any case, renegotiate the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “could and should have been done” as at the time we found ourselves “in a different reality compared to the one we found ourselves in when the Pnrr was written” On autonomy however, there is a challenge at stake “that not everyone likes”, he underlines, but it is a measure that “complies with the principle of responsibility”. From an international perspective, despite the many difficulties, Italy is perceived as “asolid economy” and this becomes “very important because it is a matter of seriousness”. An aspect that defines the solidity of our economy are government bonds: “We have reached the record of Italian government bonds on the foreign market“, specifies the head of government.

Meloni: “Shameful facts about the dossier”

Meloni then returns to talk about the judicial case that emerged from the investigation by the Perugia prosecutor’s office which was summarized with the term “dossier“. The prime minister is convinced that we need to get to the bottom of it: “What is emerging is objective incredible and shameful for a rule of law”. The leader of the Brothers of Italy recalls that, in this sense, the Anti-Mafia commission, which has the power of investigation, is already working, and we need to let it work and see what emerges. If it will then be possible to establish a commission of inquiry, as proposed by Minister Nordio, the Prime Minister believes that then she will be able to “evaluate whether there is a need for something else because it is also an issue of timing. It takes at least a few months to establish a new Commission”, says Meloni. Today, therefore, there is already a commission that is working on it and “I think we need to make it work in the best possible way”.
