Facing the challenge of medical expenses: the policy to support patients, with this maneuver changes everything.
In a socio-economic context characterized by high cost of living and ever-increasing inflation, the question of per capita health spending emerges as a crucial issue for citizens. This reality is especially pressing for those who dedicate themselves to the health sector. The problem is further amplified by the presence of chronic pathologies, an increasingly widespread reality in recent years due to the increase in life expectancy.
Addressing these expenses can be burdensome, but with an intelligent maneuver citizens can now get some medications for free without the need for exemption: here’s how.
For people affected by this disease, it is a revolution
The increase in the frequency of chronic diseases has led to a growing need for long-term care, generating significant expenses for patients and their families. A tangible example of this challenge is represented by fibromyalgia, a pathology characterized by widespread muscle pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and cognitive difficulties, with a higher incidence among women.
In this complex context, the Italian North-West region, and in particular Liguria, stood out for an innovative initiative and support for patients suffering from fibromyalgia. The regional council has announced a significant financing of 80 thousand euros for 2024, with the aim of guaranteeing free access to necessary medicines for around 700 people being treated for this chronic and disabling pathology. Mabel Riolfo, regional councilor of the League, underlined the importance of this support, stating: “A first help was already given last year by our Region, which therefore continues now”. This initiative demonstrates sensitivity towards the needs of citizens suffering from chronic diseases, highlighting a continuous commitment to protecting their health and reducing the financial burden that weighs on them.
Why is this step important?
The Liguria approach is configured as a positive model suggesting that targeted investments in healthcare can make tangible improvements in patients’ lives. The decision to guarantee free access to necessary medicines represents a significant step towards the elimination of economic barriers which often prevent patients from getting the care they need.
This initiative should serve as an example and stimulus for other regions and countries, inviting them to consider similar policies to ease the financial burden of citizens suffering from chronic diseases. The hope is that the healthcare sector will continue to evolve towards greater attention to the specific needs of patients, favoring equitable and sustainable access to necessary care.
