April is the best time for redesigning the garden. All woody plants can now be planted easily, evergreen and sensitive plants can be moved. But it is also the time of nest building and therefore the time of breeding birds. Therefore, the following applies to gardening: radical pruning of trees and the felling of trees is now prohibited to protect birds. Even if many days are already warm, certain plants are only planted outdoors after the Ice Saints.
Pruning softwood plants
When forsythia blooms, it’s time to prune shrubs and softwood plants like roses. As a rule, April is the best month for this; after mild winters, pruning can also take place in March.
Scarify the lawn
Although a burden for many, scarifying is one of the typical spring tasks. It is important that the lawn is dry. Long-term fertilizer and frequent mowing ensure that the gaps close quickly with the right lawn seeds.
