The House of Representatives gave the green light to the bill on the highway code with 163 yes votes, 107 votes against. The text now goes to the Senate for consideration.
“Great satisfaction, we are determined to save lives.” This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, commenting on the approval of the bill on road safety by the Chamber. “It’s a beautiful day – Salvini continued – because in these very hours Parliament finally approves the new highway code which provides for more checks, more road education, more rigor. The bill on road safety – highlighted the minister – provides for more rigor for those who make mistakes, therefore withdrawal of the license for those who drive drunk, drugged, for those who abandon animals, for those who use mobile phones”. “Together with this – he continued – from north to south, we are investing billions in new roads, such as the new Potenza-Melfi route: I am happy. They are beautiful days because we absolutely must reduce that number exceeding three thousand deaths on Italian roads which is a city that disappears every year. As transport minister – concluded Salvini – I want to reach the end of my mandate with more modern, wider, safer roads and fewer deaths on the road”.
