Influenza: Iss, there is no anomalous increase in serious cases – Medicine

“The data from the surveillance of serious cases up to this point do not present anomalies and are consistent with the overall epidemiological picture.” Thus the Istituto Superiore di SanitĆ  intervenes to clarify the flu season following the news of several flu deaths recorded in recent days, the latest yesterday in Veneto. At the moment, the ISS clarifies, “the incidence of flu-like syndromes in Italy is in the ‘High’ intensity range, and is equal, according to the data from the latest bulletin, to 17.5 cases per thousand assisted”. It is an intense circulation, but “the overall situation falls within the alternation of annual intensity of the seasons of transmission of respiratory viruses, and even the period in which the peak occurred does not present anomalies, and is indeed in line with what has been reported from other European countries”.
The ISS also specified that “almost all positive influenza cases are due to infections with the A/H1N1 pdm09 virus.
This strain derives from the one that caused the influenza pandemic in 2009/2010 but is among those normally circulating in the world in recent years, so much so that it is among those included in the anti-flu vaccine“, concluded the ISS, recommending “vaccination especially for the categories for which it is recommended”.
