Today MLID revealed detailed information about Alder Lake (ALD) CPU configuration, including S1 and S2 desktop models with 8 Golden Cove (high performance) and 8 Gracemont (high efficiency) cores. The S2 configuration will have 6 Golden Cove cores, but no Gracemont cores. He further detailed the P1 and P2 operations Alder Lake SKU, both of which provide 8 Gracemont cores, but only 6 and 2 Golden Cove cores respectively. As he pointed out, as power requirements increase, Intel’s reliance on high-efficiency cores is also increasing. This is why the last configuration called M has only two large cores and as many as eight small cores.
In addition, MLID claims that Intel will lift its NDA to Alder Lake on October 25. It is not clear if this is a possible product release date or some kind of internal NDA. It is said that Intel will first launch its K-series SKU, the 125W TDP SKU.
Also worth mentioning is the HX series. These are high-performance mobile chips that combine desktop PCH and CPU chips into BGA sockets. These may extend or inherit the current HK series (unlocked high-performance chips) and serve as the corresponding products of the AMD Ryzen HX series. It is said that the Alder Lake HX series will be launched in the second quarter of 2022, with a TDP range of 45 to 65W.
MLID also revealed detailed information about Raptor Lake, which is the successor of Alder Lake and will also support LGA1700 sockets. It is said that the core code name of the series is Raptor Cove, which will replace Alder Lake’s Golden Cove. The CPU will still use the high-efficiency Gracemont cores, but Intel will double the number of these cores in the upcoming CPU (that is, the 13th generation Core series). In other words, the Intel Raptor Lake series will have 8 Gracemont cores more than Alder Lake. YouTuber pointed out that the updated Raptor Cove architecture will also bring improvements in IPC, core frequency and performance.
According to MLID, Intel now expects to launch Raptor Lake during the 2022 holiday period.
