Bologna, 12 March 2024 – Prevention and collaboration have always been some of the best solutions for dealing with illnesses and problems of any kind. Precisely for this reason, the staff of Sant’Orsola hospital and the specialists of University of Bologna, with the participation of volunteers from Antr, the National Kidney Transplant Association, are organizing a free control session in view of World Kidney Day. The appointment is scheduled for Thursday 14 March from 9.30am to 7pm in Piazza XX Settembre in front of Bologna station.
The kidneys are a particularly delicate part of the body and can easily be subjected to illnesses, still too underestimated today. To facilitate prevention, Saint Ursula recommends compliance with eight simple rules such as maintaining a healthy diet, checking blood pressure, and not smoking.
In case of illness, the worsening of kidney functions does not show obvious symptoms until the advanced stages. At this point, kidney failure may occur, requiring dialysis or transplant interventions.
The free visit on Thursday 14 March in Piazza XX Settembre will include free checks for citizens, providing collection of anamnestic data, measurement of blood pressure, and various urine exams. The 2023 edition of this event recorded a notable turnout and identified issues to monitor in a number of participants.
The event will also include dialogues with specialists and information materials. Notable figures from medicine and politics are expected to be present during the inspection session, including Luca Rizzo Nervo, Roberta Toschi, Giuseppe Paruolo, Marilena Fabbri, and Matteo Ravaioli.
