Oxygen is an odorless and colorless gas essential for most living beings as it is necessary for respiration. Life on earth is made possible by the precise combination of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and other gases to a lesser extent. If on the one hand oxygen is a fundamental gas for life, on the other it is a highly oxidizing substance and is one of the main free radicals responsible for oxidative stress.
