From this morning, searches and acquisitions of documents by the Carabinieri of the Nas of Milano as part of an investigation ordered by the prosecutor Luigi Furno and the adjunct Maurizio Romanelli against 33 people, including 24 teachers of the universities of the Lombard capital, Pavia, Turin, Rome e Palermo on irregularities in the management of registrations a closed number of medical faculties and hiring of teachers and also of assistants and hospital managers. Searches throughout Italy, investigation started in 2018
For a couple of hours the NAS have been acquiring and seizing, in addition to the deeds and documents, also the contents of 29 e-mail boxes, both personal and university, of the teachers under investigation. The investigation launched in March 2018, upon reporting of irregularities in the management of limited number enrollments at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the State University of Milan, concerns several episodes of conditioning the public recruitment of full and associate professors – but also of assistants and hospital managers – according to non-merit-based criteria, but aimed at favoring specific candidates through the prior “profiling” of the competition notices on the chosen one to be favored, and also thanks to the timely choice of compliant members of the competition commissions. The hypotheses challenged for various reasons are criminal association, corruption, abuse of office, disturbed freedom from enchantments and material falsity committed by the public official.
The virologist Galli was also among the suspects
There would also be the well-known Milanese virologist Massimo Galli, former head of the infectious diseases department at the Sacco hospital in Milan, full professor at the biomedical sciences department of the State University of Milan, among the suspects. Galli, retired a few days ago, has become a familiar face during the Covid pandemic. Now it would be investigated by the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office for criminal association, auction disruption, forgery in public deed. Crime hypothesis, according to the indictment, for the most part occurred during the period of the first lockdown of March 2020.

“Banned” university investigation, 9 professors from the University of Catania sent for trial
A few days ago another investigation shook the University of Catania. The Gup of Catania, Marina Rizza, indicted 9 professors accused in the ‘University banned’ proceeding on alleged rigged contests in the university, born on investigations by the Digos of the Etna police station. The disputed crimes, for various reasons, are abuse of office and forgery and for two defendants, Francesco Basile and Filippo Drago, also corruption for acts contrary to their duties.
