Manuel García de la Vega Named New Director of Juan Ramón Jiménez Hospital

Manuel García de la Vega has been appointed as the new director of the Juan Ramón Jiménez hospital in Huelva, succeeding Jose Luis Bonilla. Sources have confirmed that Garcia de la Vega, who currently heads the Preventive Medicine and Public Health service at the hospital, will take over the management direction after a ten-month vacancy in the position.

The official announcement of García de la Vega’s appointment is scheduled to be published in the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía this Thursday, marking the conclusion of the selection process for the hospital’s management direction.

García de la Vega, a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Seville, has served as head of the Preventive Medicine and Public Health Service at the hospital for over five years. He has also held leadership positions at other healthcare facilities and was recently elected president of the Spanish Society of Preventive Medicine, Public Health, and Health Management.

In response to García de la Vega’s appointment, the current acting manager and medical director, Alejandra Alvarez, has submitted her resignation effective at the end of March. The resignation has been met with gratitude from the SAS and the Territorial Delegation of Health and Consumer Affairs.

The selection process for the hospital’s management direction has faced delays, with two previous public calls failing to fill the position. García de la Vega’s appointment is seen as a crucial step in ensuring effective leadership at the largest and most complex hospital in the province of Huelva.

The healthcare sector has responded to Álvarez’s resignation, with some union representatives expressing understanding for her decision. Despite the challenges in the selection process, García de la Vega’s appointment is expected to bring stability and effective management to the Juan Ramón Jiménez hospital.
