New robotic arm for neurosurgery in Cosenza hospital – Healthcare

The robotic arm for neurosurgery purchased for over one million euros, with Pnrr funds, was inaugurated this morning in the Annunziata hospital in Cosenza, together with a 2D/3D intraoperative imaging apparatus which will be used both for spinal surgery than for the cerebral one.

“This is – said the extraordinary commissioner of the Cosenza hospital company Vitaliano De Salazar speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration – a further piece of the hospital modernization project, with a highly advanced technological machine. We continue on the path rigorous but unstoppable undertaken a year ago which will bring healthcare in Cosenza and Calabria to a higher level and with an important future, thanks to the union between research and assistance”.

“The hospital – added De Salazar – is multiplying its excellence. In the last year, this hospital has carried out more than 1,200 surgical operations for an amount of 11 million euros, compared to 2022 which was sinking. These results cannot be they perceive immediately but we are treating and in July we will have a new emergency room. I hope that this will soon be perceived also by the people of Cosenza”.

The new instrument was installed in the operating room dedicated to neurosurgery activities. “This technological innovation, made up of two pieces of equipment, improves performance – said the director of the Uoc of Neurosurgery, Salvatore Aiello – thanks to increasingly less invasive and faster interventions”.

“Unical continues its commitment to improving Calabrian healthcare, a mission in which we believe – declared the rector of the University of Calabria Nicola Leone – and which is bringing excellent results. Less than a year ago the installation of the Da robot Vinci, last Monday four medical teachers took office, three of them as directors of complex operational units and this will allow us to open four new important specialization schools in October. Therefore, we are working in full synergy with Commissioner De Salazar, for the benefit of the whole community.”
