The ongoing mystery of having plenty of body hair but little scalp hair has puzzled many hair loss sufferers. Now the Dr. U Hair and Skin Clinic achieved a breakthrough and published a groundbreaking study in the renowned journal Dermatologic Surgery entitled “Beard and Body Hair Transplantation by Follicular Unit Excision Using a Skin-Responsive Device”. This publication introduces the revolutionary UGraft Zeus®, an innovative skin-responsive device that allows doctors to grow beards and beards through a procedure known as body hair transplantation (BHT). Can seamlessly transplant body hair to bald areas of the scalp.
The extensive study, conducted in the United States, Colombia, Mexico and India, highlights UGraft Zeus’ innovative, skin-responsive approach that addresses the complexities of existing hair restoration techniques. UGraft Zeus® is notable for its proprietary design features, including a unique self-navigation feature to accommodate different skin textures, skin thicknesses and varying levels of hair curliness during FUE. This can minimize damage to the transplant and improve wound healing in all Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) scenarios, including BHT.
In the study of 82 patients with a mean age of 48.9 years, BHT treatments consistently achieved graft losses of less than 7%, representing a significant advance over previous technologies that reported loss rates of up to 20% (Bart) and 30% (body) were recorded. What was particularly impressive was that all patients were satisfied with the treatment and over 79% of them reported high levels of satisfaction six months after the procedure. Additionally, surgeons who were previously hesitant to perform BHT using traditional methods are excited by the simplicity and success of the UGraft Zeus® and are showing increased willingness to perform beard and body FUE treatments.
BHT is proving to be a promising approach to hair restoration as it offers solutions to severe baldness and addresses problems following unsuccessful previous transplants. Special grafts such as eyebrows, beards and eyelashes achieve more natural aesthetic results by taking advantage of the properties of body hair compared to the dense but unmatched head hair.
The first author Dr. Sanusi Umar from the Department of Dermatology at Harbor-UCLA, Torrance, and Dr. U Hair and Skin Clinic, Manhattan Beach, California, emphasizes: “The introduction of skin-responsive techniques with the UGraft Zeus® addresses the challenges of transplanting non-scalp hair and represents a significant advance in restoring lost hair hair, regardless of the severity of the hair loss.”
