People with type 2 diabetes are often unaware that they may also have these two disorders

These are ageusia and anosmia, alteration of taste and smell, two disorders that according to some studies, do not appear only in the infection with the Sars-CoV-2 virus responsible for Covid 19.
Apparently there are several diseases, which could have these consequences.
In fact, people with type 2 diabetes are often unaware that they may also have these two disorders.
From a study conducted by the members of the Irccs Burlo Garofalo of Trieste it emerged that a good part of these diabetic subjects suffer from it.

That’s why people with type 2 diabetes often don’t know they might have these two disorders as well

The Trieste scientists examined and compared type 2 diabetes patients with a group of healthy people.
They asked all survey participants to test strips of paper soaked in different compounds ranging from sweet to salty, sour and bitter.
For the sense of smell, the experiment called Sniffin Sticks test, was performed with twelve markers, each with a different smell. Participants smelled each marker, indicating the perceived odor among four possible choices.

It was found that 65% of diabetic patients with hypertension suffer from a high level of smell alteration. In diabetic patients with a high fasting blood glucose level, scientists found a disturbance in recognizing both taste and smell.
Scientists say it is still unclear whether the two disorders, the altered taste and smell, are a consequence of diabetes or the cause.
It is assumed that these alterations influence the way of eating of diabetics, so much so as to explain the obesity and hypertension often present in these subjects.
Indeed, further studies will be needed to understand when the two disorders arise, and the possible causes and influences on diabetic food choices.
