Press conference on the occasion of the live event in front of the Berlin Reichstag

Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m

in the conference center of the House of the Federal Press Conference, room 1,

Schiffbauerdamm 40/corner of Reinhardtstrasse 55, 10117 Berlin

On the podium:

Gabriele Gründl – dsai eV – patient organization for congenital immune defects

Simone Naruhn – CSL Plasma

Christian Wieszner – CSL Behring Germany

Dr. Christian Rybak – Ehlers, Ehlers & Partner

Moderator: Andreas Aumann, BPI eV

Why is?

In the 1970s, doctors had to watch helplessly as people with immune deficiencies died from the slightest infection or had to live in isolation. An impressive example of this is David Vetter, who at that time became notorious as the “Boy in the Bubble”. He had to live in a sterile plastic bladder from birth because of a severe, combined immunodeficiency. Thanks to antibodies (immunoglobulins) obtained from human blood plasma, people with severe immunodeficiencies are protected today – David Vetter stands like no other for what life would be like if there were no immunoglobulins.

Immunoglobulins are therefore indispensable for many patients, but they are not always consistently available. Supply bottlenecks have been clearly noticeable in their everyday lives for a long time (e.g. by reducing dosages, extending the application intervals) – with sometimes dramatic effects. Many patients are therefore exposed to a threatening situation. It is important to ensure the supply of immunoglobulins, and there are concrete proposals for this.

In order to draw attention to the situation of those suffering from immunodeficiency,

Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 11 a.m. on the Reichstag meadow

simulated what life would be like today without immunoglobulins.

In order to raise awareness of this completely avoidable future scenario, we present this worst-case “life in a bubble” in a clear and tangible way.

You will have the opportunity to talk to patients on site.

We look forward to your participation.
