Due to the strike, passengers are allowed to postpone their trip planned for Wednesday, January 10th to Friday, January 12th to a later date free of charge. The railway has canceled the train connection. The ticket is valid for the journey to the original destination, even with a changed route. Seat reservations can be canceled free of charge. Passengers can also bring forward their journey and travel on Monday, January 8th and Tuesday, January 9th.
If a train is canceled and travelers want to forego their trip completely, they can cancel the trip and have the full fare for their ticket refunded without any deductions. Rail customers can submit a corresponding application digitally via their customer account and in the DB Navigator app, as well as by post using the passenger rights form (available as a PDF download, from the train staff, at DB Information or in the DB Travel Center).
Even in the event of strikes, rail passengers are entitled to compensation as part of their passenger rights. If you are delayed at your destination station by an hour or more, you are entitled to a refund of 25 percent of the one-way fare, and 50 percent for a delay of two hours or more.
If a passenger is on the last train in the evening and can no longer reach his destination, he can use a taxi to the hotel and appropriate accommodation. How much Deutsche Bahn reimburses depends on the individual case. Travelers should ask at the train counter or the service hotline.
Anyone who comes to work late because of a strike must make up the missed time or accept a pay cut. The reference to railways on strike is no excuse for being late: employees must, if reasonable, be prepared for longer journey times and, for example, use other means of transport.
