Rare diseases, the Uniamo campaign kicks off with a month of events – Healthcare

Rare Disease Day is celebrated around the world on 29 February 2024, the rarest day in the calendar. Uniamo, the Italian Federation of Rare Diseases, which has been active for 25 years to protect and defend the rights of patients and families, is launching a campaign full of activities. The focus of this edition will be holistic care, an integrated care approach that considers all health and social needs. To kick off the month of rare diseases on February 1st, a meeting at the Ministry of Health with the undersecretary Marcello Gemmato.

Together with a campaign on buses, trams and shelters in Rome, Milan, Bologna and Venice, awareness events will be organized with the presence of the highest political and institutional officials. The social campaign will involve influencers, people with rare diseases, associations and citizens.

In Italy there are over 2 million people with a rare disease, one in 5 is a child.

For the XVII edition of Rare Disease Day, Uniamo has decided to also target a younger audience with its awareness campaign, entering into a partnership with FantaSanremo, the fantasy game based on the Italian Song Festival which last year involved over one and a half million participants. On the fantasaremo.com website you can compose your own team made up of 5 artists, purchased with 100 baudi – the game’s currency – and register it in the Uniamo League.

One objective is to encourage all actors to combine efforts to optimize the system and achieve real management, which ensures early diagnosis, appropriate therapies, available and at home, structured pathways, socio-health integration, connections between specialization centers and the territory , research and experiments that offer hope for the future. The video and podcast, created this year with the contribution of Beppe Vessicchio, musician and conductor, will be broadcast on national TV and radio channels.

Uniamo’s initiatives start on January 31st with the online launch of the #UNIAMOleforze campaign, together with the video spot. On February 6th in Rome the awareness initiatives will get underway with the inauguration of the electric buses that will circulate throughout the month with the official colors of the day. There are many initiatives planned: for example the event organized with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità on narrative medicine and the digital screens dedicated to the campaign at the airport.
