Playlists shaped on our tastes, in the name of sharing. The popular music streaming service Spotify has launched two new functions, naturally governed by algorithms that are capable of extracting from the sequence of the songs heard – which represent our musical tastes – not only what we like but above all what we will like: the service “Only You” is activated in both the iOS and Android apps.

Once activated, there are several in-app experiences that we have available, that is the musical paths that can be taken hoping to discover music that can still excite us: the first is the astral chart transformed into a playlist, almost a horoscope in notes where the musicians are gradually approached to our solar sign, to the lunar one and to the ascendant. Then there is the dinner of your dreams, where the user chooses three musicians whom he imagines inviting to a dinner. A trio from which Spotify starts to create a selection that promises to be unforgettable. Again, there are the couplings based on numbers and times, ie the moments in which we listen to certain songs rather than others. We find more simply the pairings between artists we have listened to recently, a playlist with the pieces we listen to at a particular time of day, a selection for those who are early risers or for those who prefer to listen to music when the sun has long ago set. There is something for everyone, of course. With the addition that after having traveled all these new paths several times, the algorithms will be able to produce new playlists that are increasingly centered based on our listening experience.
Streaming saved the music, not the musicians yet

The other feature launched by Spotify is called “Blend”: it allows two people to mix their respective musical tastes into a single playlist. Just create our favorite playlist and invite a contact via email or message. When this invitation is accepted, Spotify creates a personalized one by mixing the tastes of both and also showing how users have influenced the birth of the tracklist in question. All that remains is to try.
