Start of the course on medicine and rights “Access to treatment is guaranteed”

Rector Alberto Lolli: «One of the great challenges of contemporary society» Meetings only online, the initiative is dedicated to Giulio Regeni and Gino Strada

The course “Medicine, equity, rights”, dedicated to Giulio Regeni, starts today. Domenico Ribatti (University of Bari) and Simone Sarti (University of Milan) will open the series of meetings promoted by the Borromeo college and accredited by the University of social inequalities “.

The course, which will end on May 19th, is curated by Luca Ansaloni and Clelia Martignoni of the University of Pavia and the rector of the Borromeo College Alberto Lolli; will be available in live streaming and on the social media channels of the college (for links and further information, visit the Borromeo college website: www.collegioborromeo.it).

«It seemed opportune – explains the rector of the Borromeo college Alberto Lolli – to propose again this year a course which in the first edition had an important response. On the other hand, the issue in question is far from being out of date or outdated, indeed never as it is today, unfortunately, it is extremely topical: a frightening war has been added to a global health crisis, that in Ukraine, which can only pose other dramatic problems in terms of the right to treatment “. Lolli continues:” Our prestigious speakers will help us to understand more and better about medicine, equity, rights, which represent some of the greatest challenges of contemporary society. The pandemic then demonstrated with great clarity the need to make treatments accessible to all, because it is not really conceivable that a part of humanity is vaccinated and a part, the poorest, no. Access to care must, of course, also be guaranteed to migrants, it must be precisely one of the rights that will be discussed in these meetings. Which we wanted to dedicate to Giulio Regeni, but with a particular memory of Gino Strada, the founder of Emergency, who last year honored us with his participation ». The course is recognized by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery as an Ade -altra activity (1 free credit) for students of the fifth and sixth year and is recognized by the IUSS University Institute of Higher Studies of Pavia among the extra-class activities of ordinary courses. The next meeting is scheduled for April 7: “Medicine, protection, social security. Interdisciplinary glances between Giulio Maccacaro and the present ”with Vittore Armanni (head of the archival and bibliographic heritage, Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation) and Vittorio Bellotti (scientific direction of the Irccs San Matteo Pavia Polyclinic Foundation). –
