Android TV and Google TV users will not be able to buy or rent movies in the Apple TV app, users will only be able to use Apple’s other platforms to buy, but Apple TV can be used on devices such as various streaming set-top boxes.
According to FlatPanelsHD, Apple TV has locked some platform users from making purchases or renting movies in the app. The option to buy or rent a movie or TV show from the Apple TV app on Android TV and Google TV devices has been removed, however, there is a new “How to watch” button Buy, rent, or subscribe from the Apple TV app on your streaming device. Of course, you can continue to watch content videos you have purchased, rented or subscribed to, but you cannot buy new ones.
It’s not without solutions, of course, the temporary solution is to not upgrade the Apple TV app on your Android TV and Google TV devices.
Apple has yet to explain the situation, and like the App Store, Google charges a 30 percent commission on in-app purchases for Apps running on its platform. It can be deduced that Apple is also charged a 30% commission for content sold through the Apple TV app. Apple may have made the decision to avoid commissions.
