The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) has announced that the required cut-off mark to enroll in its Medicine program is set at an impressive 12.9. As in previous years, Medicine is the most sought-after degree in Galicia, resulting in exceptionally high admission grades. Joining Medicine on the list of the top three most in-demand programs are Dentistry (12.7) and Biotechnology (12.6). These three degrees have closed admissions for the next academic year, along with many other courses taught in Galician universities.

In fact, after the first call for registration, 38.6% of the available spots across the Galician public university system have been filled for the next academic year. This represents over a third of the 184 courses on offer.

While the health disciplines continue to be highly competitive, the double degrees in Mathematics and Physics (13.6 out of 14) and Computer Engineering and Mathematics (13.3) at USC have achieved the highest cut-off marks among the degrees that have already closed.

Following closely behind these degrees are the double degrees in Early Childhood and Primary Education (12.494) and Journalism and Audiovisual Communication (12.372), also offered by USC.

Several other degrees in various fields have now closed in both the University of Santiago de Compostela and the University of A CoruƱa (UDC), as well as its Ferrol and Lugo campuses. At the UDC, the degrees no longer admitting students include ADE, Biology, Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, Audiovisual Communication, Law, Economics, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Social Education, Computer Engineering, Nautical and Maritime Transport, Technical Architecture, Physiotherapy, Tourism, Architecture, Data Engineering, Digital Creation, Animation and Videogames, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, and various double degree programs.

Applicants for the closed degrees have until July 14th to complete their formal registration. They can choose to enroll in their preferred program or wait for future calls in case they are accepted into a higher preference degree. The second call for registration will take place on July 15th, with enrollment available from July 16th to 17th, followed by a third call on July 19th, with registration from July 20th to 21st.

In addition, starting from the fourth call on July 24th, students who pass the extraordinary ABAU, the entrance exam for higher education in Galicia, will have the opportunity to join the programs that still have available spots.

The extraordinary ABAU, in which 2,751 students divided into 14 delegate commissions participate, began this week and will conclude on July 15th. The exam includes subjects such as Spanish History, Spanish Language and Literature, and essays on various topics related to Spanish society and culture.

As the registration process continues, students eagerly await their acceptance into their desired programs, navigating the competitive landscape of higher education in Galicia.
