The professor. Ignazio StanganelliDirector of the Center for Oncological Dermatology – Skin Cancer Unit of the IRST “Dino Amadori” IRCCS and associate professor of Skin and Venereal Diseases (MED/35) of the University of Parma, was appointed director of the School of Specialization in Dermatology of the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the same University. The assignment, which adds to the important research activity applied to clinical care carried out by prof. Stanganelli completes an academic journey that began in the 1990s and which saw him among the pioneers of prevention and training in non-invasive diagnostics in oncology dermatology and among the first publishers of multimedia systems in dermatology.

The professor. Furthermore, Stanganelli has recently developed two training programs within the Italian Melanoma Intergroup (IMI). e-learning for doctors called MelaMEd (Melanoma Multimedia Education). He is the promoter of the “Il Sole per Amico for Young” platform, an integral part of the health education campaign for schools of the “Il Sole per Amico: let’s learn to know the skin” tender promoted by IMI and the Ministry of Education and Merit . To further enhance his career, the recent proposal from the Australian university Queensland University – an important educational center in an area where the problem of malignant skin tumors is an absolute priority – for a chair in Dermatology.

“It will be a great commitment to direct the Dermatology Specialization School of Parma – says the professor. Stanganelli – something which for me, who have made training and research the points of reference in my professional life, represents a source of satisfaction and pride. An activity always conducted independently, first as a scholarship holder at the Romagna Oncology Institute IOR and then as a researcher at IRST, until his university call. I thank the IOR for its support over these 30 years and the IRST. I also dedicate a grateful thought to the dear professor. Dino Amadori, my teacher and mentor, who wanted to create the Skin Cancer Unit and activate the IRST headquarters at the Ravenna Hospital, where, in fact, the entire project was born in 1994 which represents a national reference center for diagnostics advanced skin tumors. My thanks also go to the University of Parma for the academic valorization and for the research platform activated with the IRST; at the AUSL of Romagna with Dr. Tiziano Carradori and Dr. Mattia Altini who started the intercompany project, shared with the excellent team of prof. Davide Melandri of Dermatology of Cesena and Forlì. Finally, a hope: that the complex organization of the skin cancer area of ​​the Comprehensive Cancer Care Research Network of Romagna can give further push towards the planned objectives, enhancing the constructive aspects and the best vocations” concludes Stanganelli.
