Two members of a Riccione gym were acquitted of the accusation of having stolen electricity from their neighbor, using a cable connected to the latter’s meter. At the end of the trial the prosecutor had asked for acquittal, while the neighbor, owner of a business located in the same building as the gym, had submitted a request for substantial compensation for tens of thousands of euros. The latter presented himself to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the autumn of 2018: the complaint was followed by the criminal decree sentencing to 6 months of imprisonment, for the aggravated theft of electricity, to which the defense lawyer Raffaele Moretti opposed. In the trial, the story was thus reconstructed: in 2012 the current members of the gym took over the activity and in 2018, during the works, it was the same electrician charged by the defendants to discover the cable, connected on one side to the gym control unit, on the other hand to the neighbor’s counter. Before the judge, the defendants defended their good faith: they had never put their hand to the electrical system and it was they themselves who warned the complainant, who had long complained about the exorbitant amounts of his bills. Among the witnesses were also heard the owner of the property and the electrician: “As far as we know, no changes have been made in that part of the electrical system”. The judge thus ordered the acquittal for not having committed the crime.
