There is controversy in Trieste over the plan to reorganize family counseling centers launched by the Giuliano Isontina University Health Authority and which will effectively lead to the closure of two of the four offices of the service in the city. Protesting is, among others, the Participation Committee for family counseling centers in Trieste, which considers the reorganization “an effective weakening of services”.
From Wednesday 24 January the clinic offices in Via Stock and via Valmaura will remain open. Asugi specified that citizens already in charge of the offices in via San Marco and via Sai will be able to contact the other two consultants “as well as the peripheral offices of Aurisina, Muggia and San Dorligo della Valle – Dolina”.
Yesterday afternoon – during a meeting between the director of Asugi, Antonio Poggiana, and the Committee – a protest was promoted in the San Giovanni park also with the participation of Non una di meno “to demonstrate noisily that the city does not agree agreement”. Some members of the Democratic Party were also present: “This battle does not end with the stroke of a pen, we will carry it forward with the utmost determination”, observed the provincial secretary Maria Luisa Paglia.
Today a new rally was held in front of the clinic in via San Marco. “The merging of family counseling centers – explains the Committee in a note – and the reduction of city offices hinders access to services, increasing the difficulties for people, starting from the most vulnerable citizens. The Committee, together with the associations, movements, groups and citizens as a whole will continue the battle for clinics and for universal, accessible, strengthened and widespread health services throughout the territory”.
