Italy Stands Firm: Will Not Adopt WHO Global Green Pass

In a move that has reassured many Italians, the Italian government has upheld its promise to not join the WHO global green pass initiative. The decision was initially announced by Orazio Schillaci, Minister of Health, at the beginning of March.

The WHO global green pass project aimed to address potential health emergencies and streamline the issuance and verification of digital health certifications across participating countries. However, many Italians viewed the initiative as reminiscent of the Orwellian QR code system implemented during the pandemic.

Despite pressure from WHO Europe’s leader urging Rome to reconsider, the Italian government presented an amendment to remove any reference to the WHO green pass from the Pnrr decree. This move effectively signals the end of the green pass era in Italy.

While negotiations on the controversial Pandemic Treaty are ongoing, Minister Schillaci has assured the public that Italy will prioritize its national interests. This decision marks a significant step towards preserving Italy’s sovereignty in managing health emergencies.

The rejection of the WHO global green pass reflects Italy’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens’ rights and autonomy. As the green pass era comes to a close, Italians can look forward to a future guided by national interests and principles.
