A recent update to Windows 11 lets users change their default browser with one click, but Mozilla, the developer of Firefox, thinks Microsoft can do more.
Last week, Microsoft released the latest cumulative update for Windows 11, adding a new button “Set Default” under “Settings” App > “Default App”, allowing users to convert the default browser from Edge to Other products such as Chrome, Firefox, Brave, let users no longer need to set default browsers one by one by file type.
Microsoft’s move may allow the outside world to praise the voice of users, but it is actually a practice that has been corrected back to the Windows 10 era. At the same time, last week, Windows Central and Neowin quoted Mozilla as saying that Microsoft’s changes to improve browser settings are a step in the right direction, but to “respect the default browser” on Windows, Microsoft has other things to do of.
Mozilla points out that all operating systems should support developers as a default state, for example they want Microsoft to simplify the steps required to set new browsers as default. In addition, Mozilla believes that Microsoft should open up App developers to access the default browsers in other Microsoft applications.
Mozilla wants to go back to the same Windows 10 approach, which is easy to set as default when opening other browsers. However, some people criticized that when changing the default search engine (currently Google Search) under Firefox, users have to spend time searching to change to other search engines.
