Remember the terrible story of the young Wissem Ben Abndel Latif… He died tied to a restraint bed in the SPDC of San Camillo. It was November 28, 2021. While the proceedings on the matter, which sees the indictment of a nurse from that facility, are still underway, the news arrives of the appointment of the director of the SPDC to the direction of the DSM of the ASL of Rome 3 where Wissem met his death. Unasam, the National Union of Mental Health Associations, expressed its dismay by expressing strong doubts about the appointment.
And today we want to remember Wissem’s way of the cross, through the document to which we agreed at the time, which led to the establishment of the “Truth and Justice Committee for Wissem Ben Abdel Latif”.
Wissem Ben Abdel Latif died on November 28, 2021, at the age of 26, in a Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment Service (SPDC) of an Italian public hospital, San Camillo, in Rome, tied for days, arms and legs, to a bed of restraint. Wissem had already been tied up, on 23 November, to another hospital, the Grassi, in Ostia, from which, on 25 November, he was transferred “due to territorial jurisdiction”. This is the brief summary of his story, which took place less than two months after his arrival in Italy.
