Wounded in a bombing in Gaza, child saved in Monza – Medicine

A five-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a bombing last December in Gaza was saved with a complex skull reconstruction operation at the San Gerardo hospital in Monza. The child was then transported to Egypt and from there on 9 February he arrived at the IRCSS in Monza where he was operated on 15 February.

Different teams participated in the cranial reconstruction operation, which also served to remove the metal splinters and lasted over seven hours: the neurosurgery team directed by Professor Carlo Giussani with the support of the Pediatric Craniofacial Malformations Surgery Unit directed by Dr. Fabio Mazzoleni and the Maxillofacial Surgery Unit directed by Professor Davide Sozzi, with the assistance of the Pediatric Anesthesia team directed by Dr. Alessandra Moretto and Professor Giuseppe Foti and all the operating room staff.
