This year too, the Quirinale welcomed young people with autism from Modena’s Tortellante, a laboratory that promotes inclusion through culinary art, for a training internship in the kitchens of the Palace. The initiative, strongly supported by President Sergio Mattarella, testifies to the joint commitment of the Presidency of the Republic and Tortellante for the inclusion in society and the valorisation of the talent of young people with autism.

Accompanied by the Tortellante staff, ten participants were welcomed by the chefs of the Quirinale, who offered them an important opportunity for training and socialization. Divided into groups of two, the young people took part in activities over the course of five weeks, enjoying an enriching experience of exchange and growth. The Tortellanti brought their experience as expert tortellini makers to the kitchens of the Palace, serving their specialty on the table of an emblematic place that President Mattarella defined as “the Home of Italians”. The Presidency of the Republic, already in the past, supported the initiative and opened the doors to the Tortellanti, welcoming them on more than one occasion both at the Castelporziano Estate and at special events at the Quirinale Palace.

In addition to representing a real culinary training opportunity, the Roman experience was for the participants, the association informs, an opportunity for growth and improvement on the path towards acquiring their own autonomy. The stay in the new city, the separation from the family and daily routines represented an opportunity to try independent adult life. The Roman experience was in fact designed by the scientific staff to constitute a moment of personal growth for the participants, offering them an experience of autonomy and socialization in addition to actual culinary training.

The implementation of this project was possible thanks to the support of MINI, which has supported Tortellante since 2022, through communication projects and concrete activities. The association also thanks the Cremonini family who offered to host the participants in an apartment in the capital for the entire duration of the internship.
